At The St-Georges Group, we spend a lot of time talking about planning for the future. Usually, that means financial planning, investment portfolios, tax strategies, retirement income, estate planning, insurance, and all the other moving pieces that make wealth management matter.
But when we talk about building a stronger future, I can’t help but think about education, confidence, and empowering people. That is one of the reasons I’m proud that The St-Georges Group sponsored Literacy Unlimited’s 2026 Under the Cover fundraiser for the third year in a row.
The event, which took place at Vignoble Souffle de Vie on May 6, was, once again, a resounding success. It was a fabulous evening, filled with wonderful conversations, generous people, and the kind of community spirit that reminds you why events like this matter so much.
The highlight of the evening was a conversation between bestselling suspense author Shari Lapena and broadcaster Trudie Mason.
As someone who appreciates a good story, I loved that part of the evening. And with a suspense author in the room, you do find yourself paying extra attention. You never know who might be hiding a plot twist.
Most importantly, the evening helped support Literacy Unlimited’s work with adult learners across our region.

The Work of Literacy Unlimited
For 45 years, Literacy Unlimited has helped adults in our region strengthen their literacy skills. That may sound simple on the surface, but the impact is anything but simple. Literacy can affect confidence, independence, employment, parenting, community involvement, and the ability to make informed decisions.
In other words, it can change lives. And that is worth standing behind.
More Than Words on a Page
When people hear the word “literacy,” they often think of reading books or writing sentences. Of course, that is part of it. But literacy reaches far beyond that.
It affects how someone applies for a job. How they understand a lease, a medical form, a government letter, or a school notice brought back home by their child. It affects how they manage appointments, ask questions, use technology, and participate in the community around them.
Literacy is not just about words on a page. It is about dignity, confidence, and independence.
That is what makes Literacy Unlimited’s work so meaningful to me. Their programs give adults a safe and respectful place to learn at their own pace. No judgment. No embarrassment. Just patient guidance, encouragement, and practical support.
I’ve always believed people do better when they feel supported, not judged. And when individuals are stronger, families are stronger. When families are stronger, communities are stronger. And when communities are stronger, we all benefit.
To everyone involved in Under the Cover 2026, thank you for making the evening such a success. To the staff, volunteers, board members, committee members, ambassadors, sponsors, and guests, thank you for showing up for such an important cause.
And to the learners who take the courageous step of building their skills, your commitment is inspiring.
At The St-Georges Group, we are grateful to stand alongside Literacy Unlimited and support its mission of building a more confident, connected, and literate community.
